Rooster & Hen

We spotted this blue grouse dancing for his lady while up in the Smoky Mountains of the Sawtooth Range.  This fancy fellow made me wish Robert had feathers...

Cow & Calf

I caught them nibbling willows
on the Salmon River in the Sawtooth Range.
I bet they're glad spring is coming!
I am too.

Shoshone Falls

Located on the mighty Snake River, just East of Twin Falls, is Shoshone Falls -- also known as The Niagara of the West.
The cascade is not as wide as Niagara Falls but it boasts a bigger drop -- and best of all, you don't have to mingle with thousands of other people while trying to catch a glimpse of it!
Due to spring run off in this mountainous state, the Snake River is running higher than high and the water show was spectacular.
Wish you could have seen it for yourselves!

Big Country

I woke up in a 1973 VW Bus this morning.
This is what I saw when I looked out the window --
the unforgettable and lonesome Lemhi Valley, in the middle of May.

Idaho Smudged

I made this picture while up on Gibson Jack with RW this evening.  The rain was finely misting, all around, and the mountains were caped in low, white clouds.  It was a romantic hike.  My hands were numb and I couldn't get my camera to focus because I couldn't properly grab the focus ring!  So I just shot smudges instead.  It's dreamy.  Idaho is dreamy.  I think the result is appropriate.

I mean really, if Idaho can look this good out of focus, just imagine what you're missing when it's in focus!

Mountain Water

A bit of Rocky Mountain water managed to get caught in the cold.
This is City Creek actual with a righteous spring source just up the mountain.

Across the Street

This is my front yard.
Pretty, huh?

The View From Up Top

Looking East and down into Pocatello from atop the mountains on the West edge of town...during golden hour.  Gosh.  I love this state.

Come on in!

The water's fine!

A calm stretch on the North Fork of the Payette River between Boise and McCall, Idaho.

Just around the next bend.

The Snake River Valley, just around the bend from Pocatello, prepares for a thunder bumper.

The Sound of Mountain Water:

Backside of Pebble Creek, at the top of Pebble Creek Road.
WARNING:  Getting here takes tough tires and a few creek crossings in your truck.  Pack a spare AND a camera.  It's beautiful.

Southfork

The South fork of the hallowed Snake River drifting away under the summer light.
Good fishing.
Good water;
holy water from the roots of the Tetons and beyond.
Behold.
Idaho.

Locals call it Southfork.
Everyone else calls it a destination.
How true.

Home

With the sage and a mountain view;
spring winds and the scent of rain...
There's simply no place like Idaho.
